Govt is committed to providing facilities to the last person: CM Yogi

Chief Minister inaugurates night shelter built at Transport Nagar for Rs 2 crore 17 lakh

Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized on Friday that in any civilized society, efforts must be made to provide facilities to the last person. He assured that the government is working with full commitment in this direction.

While addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a newly constructed shelter home (night shelter) by the Municipal Corporation in Transport Nagar, built at a cost of ₹2.17 crore, CM Yogi stated that the government’s resolve is to ensure that no one is forced to sleep in the open or endure the harsh cold during severe cold waves. “To achieve this, all necessary arrangements have been made, including shelter homes and the distribution of blankets,” he added.

He also distributed blankets and food packets to the underprivileged and homeless. The event commenced with the Chief Minister inaugurating the shelter home amidst Vedic chanting and inspecting its facilities.

He remarked that providing shelter to the homeless during a severe cold wave is one of the greatest acts of virtue. The newly inaugurated facility adds to the several operational shelter homes already serving the city’s vulnerable population.

The Chief Minister assured that adequate funds have been allocated to all districts through the Revenue Department to safeguard the needy against the bitter cold. “Blanket distribution is being carried out efficiently with active support from public representatives, while charitable organizations have also stepped forward to contribute.”

CM Yogi emphasized that it is a collective responsibility to support those in distress, urging everyone to stand in solidarity with the less fortunate. He also called for raising awareness about caution and preventive measures to help people stay healthy during this cold wave, which may persist for a few days.

Highlighting the government’s efforts in arranging shelter homes, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the role of public representatives and citizens in ensuring no one is left to sleep in the open, under the sky, or on roadside footpaths. He stated, “If any economically weak individual, mentally ill person, or worker, such as a laborer or rickshaw puller, is found sleeping in the open, steps should be taken with full sensitivity to send them to a shelter home.”

CM Yogi Adityanath further remarked that shelter homes are invaluable during disasters and extreme conditions, such as severe colds, floods, or heatwaves. He also stressed that while the police and administration are responsible for security, society must remain vigilant against threats to national security.

During the inauguration of the night shelter, approximately 1,000 people received blankets and food packets in the presence of the Chief Minister. Personally handing out these items, CM Yogi also blessed children, offering them chocolates and kind gestures of affection. He directed municipal corporation officials to ensure that anyone who missed out on receiving a blanket during the event was identified and provided with one afterwards.

While distributing blankets, the Chief Minister noticed Anita Rani from Mewatipur sitting with her 11-year-old son, Arjit, in a wheelchair. Moved by their plight, he inquired about the child’s condition. Anita explained that Arjit has been unable to walk or speak due to neurological problems since birth. The Chief Minister assured her of all possible assistance, instructing her to consult a doctor and proceed with treatment, promising the government’s full support.

On this occasion, Mayor Dr. Manglesh Shrivastava, MLC and BJP State Vice President Dr. Dharmendra Singh, MLA Vipin Singh, BJP Mahanagar President Rajesh Gupta, and Kalibari Mahant Ravindra Das, among others, were present.
